Biconditional

The conjunction of conditional & its converse is called bi conditional. i.e \left( {p \to q} \right) \cap \left( {q \to p} \right) = p \leftrightarrow q.

  • p if and only if q
  • p iff q
  • q if and only if p
  • p is necessary & sufficient for q.
  • q is necessary & sufficient for p.

Example:

\Delta ABC is equilateral iff its all sides are equal”

Axioms:

p \leftrightarrow q is true when both p, q are true or false, otherwise it is false.

p \leftrightarrow q is true when and only when p \to q and q \to p are both true.
