Domain and Range

Let  f \subset A \times B , i.e, let  f be a relation from  A to  B . Then domain of  f or  \text {domf} or  D_f is defined by

D_f (\text {dom f})= \{ x \in A : (x,y) \in f \text { for some } y \in B \}

 \rightarrow The set B is called the codomain of f .

The range of f or \text {rng f} (or R_f) is defined by

 R_f( \text {rng f})= \left{ Y \in B : (x,y)\in f \text { for some } x \in A \right }
